Breeder code of ethics
Breeder's Code of Ethics for consideration:
Commitment to Health: Breeders shall prioritize the health and well-being of their Dutch Shepherds. This includes conducting health screenings for common hereditary conditions such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, eye disorders, and genetic diseases.
Ethical Marketing and Sales Practices: Breeders shall refrain from misleading advertising or sales tactics and shall be honest and transparent in all dealings with potential buyers. They shall provide potential buyers with transparent information about their breeding program, including health records, pedigree information, and any known genetic issues within their lines. Breeders shall accurately represent the health screening results and titles achieved by their breeding dogs. Any health screenings and titles advertised should be verifiable through official records or governing bodies. Misrepresentation or exaggeration of health screenings and titles are unacceptable and goes against the principles of honesty and integrity.
Lifetime Commitment: Breeders shall offer guidance and support to puppy buyers throughout the lifetime of the dog. They should take responsibility for any dogs they have bred if they require rehoming or rescue assistance. No Puppy Mills, Mass Production or auctions: Breeders shall not engage in puppy mills or mass production of puppies for profit, nor shall they offer any puppies up at auction. Each breeding should be carefully planned and executed with the welfare of the dogs as the primary concern.
Education and Improvement: Breeders shall educate themselves and their buyers about the Dutch Shepherd breed, including its history, temperament, and specific needs. Breeders shall continually strive to improve their breeding program through ongoing education, mentorship, and collaboration with other breeders and experts in the field.
Adherence to Breed Standard: Breeders shall strive to adhere to the breed standard set forth by the FCI.
